All Burglaries Are Not the Same: Predicting Near-Repeat Burglaries in Cities Using Modus Operandi

چکیده

The evidence that burglaries cluster spatio-temporally is strong. However, research unclear on whether clustered (repeats/near-repeats) should be treated as qualitatively different crimes compared to unrelated (non-repeats). This study, therefore, investigated if there were differences in modus operandi-signatures (MOs, the habits and methods employed by criminals) between near-repeat non-repeat across 10 Swedish cities, well MO-signatures can aid predicting a burglary classified or crime. Data consisted of 5744 residential burglaries, with 137 MO features characterizing each case. Descriptive data repeats/non-repeats provided together Wilcoxon tests MO-differences crime pairs, while logistic regressions used train models predict scene was Near-repeat rather stylized, showing heterogeneity MOs but homogeneity within cities at same time, significant including subgroups features, such mode entering, target selection, types goods stolen, traces left scene. Furthermore, using regression models, it possible mean F1-score 0.8155 (0.0866) based MO. Potential policy implications are discussed terms how data-driven procedures facilitate analysis spatio-temporal phenomena offenders, law enforcement agencies provide differentiated advice response when suspicion part series opposed an isolated event.

Firearms Stolen during Household Burglaries

Victimizations involving the theft of firearms declined from 283,600 in 1994 to 145,300 in 2010 (figure 1). Overall, about 1.4 million guns, or an annual average of 232,400, were stolen during burglaries and other property crimes in the six-year period from 2005 through 2010. Of these stolen firearms, at least 80% (186,800) had not been recovered at the time of the National Crime Victimization ...

Spatial Analysis of Residential Burglaries in London, Ontario

This paper focuses on analyzing the spatial pattern of residential burglaries in London, Ontario. It discusses the problems associated with using geo-referenced data on residential burglary incidents. The relative risk ratio is applied as a measure of the intensity of residential burglaries. The highest relative risks of residential burglaries are found in the core area of the city and the risk...

New genes with old modus operandi

The process of partitioning bacterial sister chromosomes into daughter cells seems to be distinct from chromatid segregation during eukaryotic mitosis. In Escherichia coli, partitioning starts soon after initiation of replication, when the two newly replicated oriCs move from the cell centre to quarter positions within the cell. As replication proceeds, domains of the compact, supercoiled chrom...

Kainate receptors with a metabotropic modus operandi.

Kainate receptors (KARs), together with AMPA and NMDA, are typically described as ionotropic glutamate receptors. The functions of KARs have begun to be elucidated only in the last decade. Although some the actions of KARs are classically ionotropic, surprisingly others seem to involve the activation of second-messenger cascades and invoke metabotropic roles for this type of glutamate receptor....

Adjuvants: Classification, Modus Operandi, and Licensing

Vaccination is one of the most efficient strategies for the prevention of infectious diseases. Although safer, subunit vaccines are poorly immunogenic and for this reason the use of adjuvants is strongly recommended. Since their discovery in the beginning of the 20th century, adjuvants have been used to improve immune responses that ultimately lead to protection against disease. The choice of t...
